The other night my daughter came home from school with a headache. She even went so far as to tell me she could skip Gymnastics, her reason for existing! At that moment I figured something was up. A sympathetic smile and our usual discussion about her day and I discovered the issue. Her usually happy, go lucky demeanor was turned upside down because she HATES worms! She loves to learn, she loves to ask questions, but guaranteed if you stick her in a boat and happen to sit a worm beside her, she will attempt to jump ship, a lesson we learned first hand in the summer.
At school, while other students were excited to spend time learning about worms first hand, my fearful little girl was not only scared, but upset she didn’t finish her work. All because she couldn’t even function staying in the same room. Based on my own irrational dislike of the small squirmy creatures, I couldn’t judge her or be angered by her lack of participation. I would have acted the same way! However, since the completion of the assignment was to observe the worms, she was upset she may get poor marks. Apparently she takes after me in many ways.
Super Tech Mom to the rescue. A few prompts and mini me realized that there existed such a space where you can find any kind of information you may be searching for, in a worm free zone! In less than 10 minutes, she found all the answers she was looking for and more. 5 minutes after that, she decided maybe her headache wasn’t so bad after all and headed off to her favorite place with a big smile on her face.
I know this already…but this event once again proved to me that Technology is amazing. Homework done, relationship strengthened, problem solved…Worm Free!
